Among other things, SUVs pose a greater danger for pedestrians than normal cars, when those large and high cars involve in an accident hitting a human. In fact SUVs are more likely to kill a pedestrian than a normal car. This quite obvious fact is confirmed by a new study that Insurance
Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducted in U.S.A., using data from 79 accidents involving pedestrians, which happened in three urban areas of Michigan. The research showed that SUVs cause more serious injuries at speeds over 30 kph. At accidents with speeds from 30 to 63 kph the SUVs tend to kill the pedestrians at the 30% of the occasions, when at the same time 23% of these type of accidents with normal cars resolve to the death of the pedestrian. As for speeds over 64 kph, if a SUV hit a pedestrian then the death of the later is 100% sure, when the normal cars have a 54% rate of killing the pedestrian.
